Beach description

Furuzamami is a wide beach with shallow, warm and clean water. The coastline is usually not crowded. Furuzamami is often called a beautiful and unspoilt tropical heaven. Light blue water with emerald tint, white soft sand and lush greens on tall hills surround this wonderful beach.

Snorkeling is popular on Furuzamami. Reefs in the western part of the beach (left side of the coast) are covered with well-preserved corals that spread deep, but not too deep as the maximum depth is just about 3 meters. This unique coral reef is considered to be the best in the world. Manta rays with a fin span of 6 meters, as well as 3 different kinds of clownfish live near this beach. Spawning of coral polyp, which is a unique natural phenomenon, can be observed in the Summer during night dives. Zamami Island becomes the center of whale excursions from the end of January to March.

In Zamami village, located about 1,6 km away from the beach, you can check out plenty of restaurants and cheap accomodation.

When is the best time to go?

If in the north of Japan, in Hokkaido, the weather in January-February is quite wintery, in the southern islands the temperature rarely drops below 20 degrees even in the cold season. In summer, the rainy season comes in Japan, when the humidity becomes almost one hundred percent, and the thermometer is at 30 to 40 degrees.   Therefore, the best time to travel to Japan – is late spring or early autumn.
