Beach description
Furuzamami Beach is a wide expanse graced with shallow, warm, and pristine waters. The coastline is typically serene, rarely crowded, making Furuzamami often heralded as a beautiful and untouched tropical paradise. The light blue waters, with their emerald tint, gently lap against the white, soft sand, while lush greenery adorns the tall hills that encircle this magnificent beach.
Snorkeling is a favored activity at Furuzamami. The reefs on the western part of the beach (the left side when facing the ocean) are adorned with well-preserved corals that extend into the depths, though the maximum depth reaches only about 3 meters. This unique coral reef is acclaimed as one of the best in the world. Manta rays, boasting a fin span of up to 6 meters, as well as three distinct species of clownfish, make their home near these shores. During the summer, the spawning of coral polyps - a unique natural spectacle - can be witnessed on night dives. From the end of January to March, Zamami Island becomes a hub for whale-watching excursions.
In Zamami Village, situated approximately 1.6 km from the beach, visitors will find an array of restaurants and budget-friendly accommodations.
Optimal Visiting Times
-
The Kerama Islands, a stunning archipelago in Okinawa, Japan, are a paradise for beach lovers and divers. To make the most of your beach vacation, timing is key.
- Late March to Early May: This period is ideal for those seeking comfortable temperatures and minimal rainfall. The cherry blossoms in late March are a bonus for visitors.
- June to Mid-July: Early summer offers warm weather, but be mindful of the rainy season which can bring intermittent showers.
- Late July to September: Peak summer months are hot and perfect for swimming and snorkeling. However, this is also peak tourist season, so expect more crowds.
- October to November: For a quieter experience with pleasant weather, the autumn months are a great choice. The risk of typhoons diminishes in late October.
While the Kerama Islands can be visited year-round, the best time for a beach vacation is typically from late March to early May. During this window, you'll enjoy the best balance of good weather, fewer tourists, and the natural beauty of the islands in full bloom.
