Tomori Beach is the main feature of the Amami Oshima Island, both due to the fact that it's considered to be one of the most famous and beautiful beaches, and also due to its location. Tomori Beach is the closest beach to the airport that's located just 3 km to the north and 5-6 minutes away by bus or car. The combination of this white sandy beach and the iridescent blue water here is magnificent.
Rocks are stretched along the coastline, and the beach is covered in grainy white sand. Local coral reefs protect the beach from the dangerous currents and also make for a great attraction for underwater swimmers.
Kurasaki Beach, like many other beaches on Amami Island, is perfect for snorkeling as the water along the coast is quite shallow. The sandy and clean beach is located about 30 minutes away from the airport, but buses come rarely. There's a big parking lot for rented vehicles, a luxurious hotel for accomodation purposes is located near the beach, and diving center and restaurant both operate at the beach. Kurasaki Beach is a great place for sunbathing, swimming and walking along the rocky part of the coastline, as the water gets warm as early as March and April.
Sakibaru Beach is located in the north of the island where buses don't drive, but you can get here by rented car or taxi. You'll need to walk a narrow pathway from the nearby highway to the beach and the amazing turquoise ocean. There are no conveniences on the beach besides a small parking lot so it's never too crowded.
The beach is located in the northeast of Tokunoshima Island. Tourists get here by taxi from the airport. Besides the ocean and the sandy beach there are also a parking lot and a camping site here. Toilets, showers, a kitchen and other conveniences are located near the camping site.
The beach got its name from the main coral reef seen above the water. Innojofuta Beach isn't particularly known for its sandy area and beach attractions, but the place is quite popular among tourists. You can see the local sight all year long, and the beach with the well-known mountain is located near the Hetonoko port, just 20-30 minutes away if you walk. There are several restaurants nearby, so the beach is worth visiting even if you're exploring the island as a whole. Those who prefer picturesque nature can visit the nearby beaches and waterfalls.
Yakomo Beach is located on the south coast and it's as well-developed as other beaches on Okinoerabu Island. Locals and tourists drive around the island and the nearby beaches on rented scooters, and you can also take a bus from the town of Yakomo to get to the beach (takes just over 5 minutes).
Wanjo is one of the northern beaches on Okinoerabu Island, a very beautiful but not crowded place. The descent into water is smooth, shallow and comfortable. The beach is covered in sand, and coral reefs can be seen further off.
It's considered to be the most beautiful beach on the Yoron Island and one of the biggest ones. Ooganeku Beach is located on the east coast and covers 2 km of the total island area. It's simply impossible to not visit this beach when coming to the island. It's perfectly suitable for water activities and swimming.
We're actually not even certain that this place can be called a beach, as the sand surface only appears during low tides in Spring and Summer. Yurigahama is separated from the closest big beach (Ooganeku) by just 1,5 km of water surface. This place doesn't have distinctive borders as with each low tide it's formed in a new place, depending on weather and day. And that's exactly why this is the most well-known place on the whole Yoron Island.
