Yurigahama beach

We're actually not even certain that this place can be called a beach, as the sand surface only appears during low tides in Spring and Summer. Yurigahama is separated from the closest big beach (Ooganeku) by just 1,5 km of water surface. This place doesn't have distinctive borders as with each low tide it's formed in a new place, depending on weather and day. And that's exactly why this is the most well-known place on the whole Yoron Island.

Beach description

Legends surround the name of the beach, its location and also the sand, the grains of which are, according to the locals, shaped like a star. Another legend says that for a happy life a visitor needs to collect as many starry grains as their age. So why not visit this place and see if the prediction works or not.

All conveniences and accomodation options are located on the nearby islands with a high cultural influence of Okinawa. People come there to rest and sunbathe on sandy beaches, take boat tours, swim underwater and enjoy their time with the kind and hospitable locals. This is a great place to wait a bit, rent a boat and swim to the legendary Yurigahama Beach.

When is the best time to go?

If in the north of Japan, in Hokkaido, the weather in January-February is quite wintery, in the southern islands the temperature rarely drops below 20 degrees even in the cold season. In summer, the rainy season comes in Japan, when the humidity becomes almost one hundred percent, and the thermometer is at 30 to 40 degrees.   Therefore, the best time to travel to Japan – is late spring or early autumn.
