Jungmun beach

Located on the picturesque south coast of Jeju Island, the beach is renowned as the island's premier surfing destination. In Russian, the name of this beach is pronounced as Chunmun, while the island itself is known as Jeju. The Korean Federation for the Environmental Movement has acknowledged this pristine coastline as the finest unpolluted beach among 44 beaches across South Korea, making it an ideal getaway for those seeking both adventure and tranquility.

Beach description

To reach the stunning Jungmun Beach, board bus number 600 and alight at the Hyatt Hotel stop. From there, a short descent will lead you to your coastal destination. Boasting a convenient location, an efficient transport network, and perfect conditions for windsurfing, Jungmun Beach is a popular spot, often bustling with activity.

The beach's distinctive charm lies in its extraordinary sand palette. Although compact in size, spanning just 500 meters in length and 50 meters in width, the beach showcases a mesmerizing mosaic of black, white, red, and gray sands. This unique blend strikingly complements the dark volcanic rocks of Hyunmuam on Jeju Island. The sands, irrespective of their hue, are consistently clean and fine-grained.

Adjacent to the beach, on its right, lies the enchanting Haesikgul sea cave. This natural wonder is a must-visit during low tide, offering visitors the opportunity to capture some truly unique photographs. The average water depth near the beach is 1.2 meters. However, despite the sandy seabed, Jungmun is not the most suitable beach for children's swimming activities. The seabed drops off abruptly at Chunmun, with strong underwater currents and high waves presenting potential hazards.

When is the best time to go?

The best time to visit Jeju for a beach vacation is during the late spring to early fall, specifically from May to September. This period offers the most favorable weather conditions for enjoying the island's beautiful beaches.

  • May to June: Spring in Jeju is pleasant with mild temperatures and less rainfall, making it a great time for beach activities without the summer crowds.
  • July to August: These are the peak summer months when the island experiences its warmest weather. It's the perfect time for swimming and water sports, but expect more tourists and higher prices.
  • September: As summer winds down, the weather remains warm enough for beach outings. Early fall sees fewer visitors, providing a more relaxed atmosphere while still enjoying the warm sea temperatures.

Regardless of the time you choose, Jeju's beaches offer stunning natural beauty and a variety of experiences. Just remember to check the local weather and tourist trends to ensure the best possible beach vacation on this enchanting island.
