Mamaia beach

The perl of Romanian resorts

Mamaia Beach is on the territory of the most fascinable Romanian resort of the same name. In Romanian, "mamaia" means grandmother, which very accurately reflects the status of the oldest resort zone in Romania, opened more than 100 years ago - in 1906. Today, the coastal zone of the famous resort is a modern beach, which is a 8 km wide sandy strip up to 200 m wide, filled with everything necessary for a comfortable beach vacation.

Beach description

The coast near Mamaia resort is covered with fine velvety sand of light golden hue. It is washed by the warm sea, protected from large waves by breakwaters, so the water is always transparent and the surf is soft. The presence of a fairy large strip of the sandy beach with a gentle entrance into the water and a sandy bottom makes it convenient to stay on the beach with children. Another pleasant thing about resting on Mamaia Beach is that there is no exhausting heat due to the light breeze.

Since Mamaia is a public beach, the entrance to it is free, but you will have to pay for the service in the form of an umbrella with a sunbed or rental of sports equipment. Rest on the beach is popular with Romanians and foreign tourists, primarily from Western Europe, so it is always crowded during the season, especially on weekends. The popularity of the beach increases due to its convenient location - Mamaia is located on the northern outskirts of Constanta, it is possible to reach it by any type of transport - by bus, car or taxi - in 5-10 minutes. However, thanks to the large beach area, even in the high season there are no crowded beaches.

When is it better to go

The sea season on Romanian beaches opens at the end of spring and lasts at least 3.5-4 months, until the end of September. In May, as a rule, the sea is still quite cool – the average water temperature is + 17°C, air temperature – +20° C, sometimes it can rain. With the beginning of June, the water in the sea warms up and becomes pleasant for swimming.

High season on the Romanian beaches falls in July and August. It is sunny and warm at this time: air temperature – +30° C, water – +25° C, rains are rare – not more than 1-2 times a month. This period is ideal for families with children. Tourists who can not stand the heat, most of all will like a vacation on the beach in early September, when the sea is still warm, but the sun is not as hot as in the summer.
