Barguzinsky Bay beach

Barguzinsky Bay is located in the central part of Lake Baikal and is the largest and deepest bay of the great lake. It occupies part of the territory of Buryatia and its length reaches 90 km. (the total area of the water is 725 square kilometers). On the shore of the bay there is the largest sandy beach of Lake Baikal, which stretches from the mouth of the Barguzin River to the Svyatoy Nos Peninsula.

Beach description

The most picturesque bays are located in the eastern part of the bay - they are surrounded by gigantic hills covered with dense greens, and majestic pine trees approach to the water, filling the air with a heady smell. Most of the beaches are absolutely wild, it is possible to get to them on SUV through dense taiga thickets. In these parts you can watch rare animals and birds, go to the forest for mushrooms and berries, fishing and enjoy peace and quiet surrounded by pristine nature.

On the shore of the bay there are several tourist centers with maintained recreation bases and campsites. One of these places is located at the merger of the sand spit with the Svyatoy Nos Peninsula - in summer the water warms up to 22 degrees, competitions in sport fishing, folklore festivals and other exciting events are held.

When is the best time to go?

Baikal is beautiful at any time of the year, except perhaps the thaw time (from late October to early January), when earth-roads become almost impassable, it is not worth the trouble to come here. July and August are the best time for a beach recreation when  the water in some areas warms up to a comfortable 22 degrees (Olkhon,  Chivyrkuisky Bay, the Small Sea), and the air temperature reaches 26-27 degrees.
