Aganoa beach

Aganoa black sand beach is located on the east coast of Savai'i Island in the south of Samoa, 15 minutes away from the Maota Airport. This beach served as the venue for the surfing competition during the 2017 South Pacific Games. Only professional surfers can handle the waves here. Besides the surfing, visitors can also partake in snorkeling, kayaking, rowing, relax in the local fale (straw hut without walls) or set up a family picnic. The beach is rarely crowded due to the damaged road that leads to it.

Beach description

Aganoa is a deep beach shaped like a crescent and surrounded by tall palms. The coast in this part of the island is covered in unique black sand, with large stones occasionally mixed in. The water is transparent and has a dark blue tint, the waves here are high and loud. Swimming here may be dangerous due to the underwater currents, which is why this place is typically visited by athletes.

The picturesque Samoa National Park with amazing cliffs, islands and archs out of volcanic lava is located near Aganoa.

When is the best time to go?

The climate in Samoa is divided into 2 seasons. In the summer season, which lasts from November to April, hot and humid weather prevails on the island, in the winter (May to October) it is dry and warm. The average t ° of air in Samoa is + 26 °C, the water on the beaches is + 24 °C and higher, the average rainfall is 3,000 mm/year. Geographically, the island is located in the cyclone passage zone, therefore it is always windy, and in the summer season the hurricanes and storms are often here. The maximum amount of rain falls during the period from December to April. May-October is the most favorable time for a holiday in Samoa.
