Champagne beach

Champagne Beach in the Republic of Vanuatu is called the pearl of the Pacific Ocean. The name of the beach is not accidental, because the water sizzles, resembling champagne bubbles at low tide in shallow water. An amazing nature, a beautiful beach and colorful people with their customs have turned this place into one of the best beaches in the world. Champagne Beach is a secluded and safe beach; even children are not afraid to dive and snorkel there. Champagne is one of the few beaches, where cruise ships arrive, mainly ships from Australia.

Beach description

The beach of Champagne is situated on the island of Espiritu Santo, which means the island of the Holy Spirit, the city of Luganville on the Pacific coast, the city of the second largest in the republic of Vanuatu. Beach is located in quiet and scenery bay. From the land, Champagne is surrounded by mountains and rocks covered with lush greenery of tropical trees, and the beach area is bounded by coral reefs.

The Champagne Beach area is represented by wide beaches, occupying a long strip of beaches. The spacious crescent-shaped beach is covered with snow-white sand with a scarcely perceptible pink tide. Sand in this part of the Pacific Ocean has an unusual texture, it is very soft and resembles talc. The water is bright blue with perfect transparency complements the beach of Champagne, turning it into a paradise corner on the ground. Entry into the water is shallow, smooth and safe. From the bright sunlight you can hide in shade of palm trees, which separate the beach zone from the part of the island, where local residents organized a market and places for lunch.

Strong wind and high waves are not typical for Vanuatu, but even though the sun is constant, the water on the Champagne beach is refreshing. The difference during the castings is particularly pronounced, at this time, air is released from rock volcanic formations, at the bottom of the lagoon, reducing the water temperature by several degrees.

The beach can be reached by a cruise from Sydney. There is also an international aiport Santo-Pecoe.

When is the best time to go?

From December to March, Vanuatu becomes restless: local residents and tourists can be disturbed by rains and hurricanes.  The best time to visit the islands is summer and early autumn, when the southeast trade winds slightly remove the heat.

Useful information

Champagne Beach is a popular stopping place for cruise ships. On such days, the beach becomes crowded and noisy, which does not allow you to enjoy the tranquility of the island. Therefore, planning a vacation on the beach is better in those days when the arrival of airliners is not planned.

Near the beach there is a local market where you can buy interesting souvenirs for little money. Guides also provide an opportunity to visit the Vatunatu tribes, in which until today they organize their life in the tribes. These villages are located in the depths of the jungle. Locals are very friendly and not annoying. It is with great pleasure that they familiarize tourists with their customs, learn the technique of applying natural dyes to fabrics, treat them to a national kava drink and demonstrate incendiary dances to drums.
