Ferrando beach

Ferrando beach is situated in the city of Colonia del Sacramento, 177 km southwest of the capital of the state. Here guests are offered not the Atlantic Ocean but la Plata Bay.

Beach description

The beach is sandy but not so regularly cleaned as the city ones. During the peak season, it is quite peaceful and solitary here. And in fall and spring, strong winds blow, so there are many fans of surfing and kitesurfing. There is no infrastructure on the beach at all: neither changing and shower stalls, nor toilets. There are also no cafes nereby where you could grab a bite. There are luxurious villas on the beach, but it is possible to find some budget vacation option.

Colonia del Sacramento is a provincial city which preserved the unique architectural sights of the period of Portuguese and Spanish colonization. It is worth going up to the lighthouse which has been operating for 300 years. It is interesting to walk along the old city where there are a lot of cozy cafes and souvenir shops. For nature enthusiasts in Colonia del Sacramento, there is Anhorena Park with a variety of plants and animals, and unique museums.

It takes 3.5 hours to get to the city from Montevideo by bus, or 2.5 hours by rented car on Route 1.

When is it better to go

The best time to travel to South America – from December to May. There is little rainfall during these months, the air warms up by an average of +28˚С, and the water temperature – from +21˚ to +23˚. Most Atlantic waters warm up in February, but this is the peak season on the coast. At this time, tourists from neighboring Argentina, Uruguay itself and tourists from all over the world choose these places for recreation.
