Beach description
Located in the beautiful bay of Selong Belanak, this destination impresses with its vast and long coast featuring snow-white, powdery soft sand. The beach is surrounded by picturesque hills covered with dense vegetation, creating a contrasting emerald border along the coast. Despite its considerable length of about 1 km, the beach never seems crowded, even with numerous tourists. The bay where Selong Belanak is situated is protected from the open ocean, making swimming here exceptionally safe.
For those eager to learn to surf, this Lombok beach is the ideal place, thanks to several factors that contribute to such water leisure, including:
- Consistency of small, gentle waves, perfect for training beginners;
- Year-round surfing opportunities, with waves that are welcoming at any time;
- Availability of surf schools with experienced instructors and equipment rental centers;
- Well-developed infrastructure and easy accessibility;
- Sandy seabed with no coral and a very gentle entry into the sea.
Among the drawbacks are the not-so-clear waters and a peculiar "highlight" of this beach – herds of buffalo herded along the shore by local shepherds. On one hand, this offers a colorful and exotic experience; on the other, the coast is not always pristine after the animals have passed. However, the picturesque sunsets in this bay attract many connoisseurs of romance, making it a memorable experience. The northern and central parts of the beach are most suitable for swimming.
When is the best time to visit?
The best time to visit Lombok for a beach vacation is during the dry season, which spans from May to September. This period offers the most conducive weather conditions for enjoying the island's stunning coastlines.
- May to September: Dry Season - This is the ideal time for beach activities, with lower humidity, less rain, and more sunshine. The sea conditions are also generally better for swimming, snorkeling, and diving.
- July and August: Peak Season - These months are the busiest, as they coincide with international summer holidays. Expect more crowds and higher prices, but also a vibrant atmosphere and plenty of sunshine.
- May and June: Shoulder Season - For those looking to avoid the peak season crowds but still enjoy good weather, the months of May and June are perfect. The island is less crowded, and accommodation can be more affordable.
- October to April: Wet Season - While it's possible to visit Lombok during these months, expect heavy rains and potential disruptions to outdoor activities. However, this can also be a time for lush landscapes and fewer tourists.
