Boka Kokolishi beach

If you're looking for something more exotic, Washington Slaagbai national park suggests you check out its main sight - Boka Kokolishi. This small beach on the northern shore of the island is a truly breathtaking nature wonder.

Beach description

The rocky beach of Boka Kokolishi has the black tincture due to fragments of dark shells left by aquatic snails. The beach protrudes in between volcanic rocks and is surrounded with stormy sea. Powerful waves breaking against the rocks are the majestic sight. The beach is unsuitable for swimming due to strong currents.

High lava rocks alter with beautiful semicircular limestone plateaus in the sea. They get sunk in waves and opened again. Local water is distinguished by violet shine from numerous algae growing in the plateau which makes the entire view magically beautiful in sun rays. Tourists enjoy holding picnics on this beach and taking exotic shells with them. If you are lucky enough, you'll get a chance to find petrified remains of old mussels in lava rocks.

When is it better to go

A comfortable temperature f water (+24 °C) and air (+26 ... + 32 °C) is kept on Bonaire all year. The rainy season is from November to February, so it’s better to go to other months to relax on the beaches of the island.
