Ras Al Hadd beach

Ras Al Hadd is a 12 km long sandy beach in the east of Oman, situated in Ash Sharqiyah region, about 2,5 hours away from Muscat. The beach borders the Al Hajar mountain range on the west. Ras Al Hadd is typically crowded during weekends, so those who prefer solitude are advised to visit during weekdays when there aren't as many guests. You can get to the beach from Sur by taxi or rented car.

Beach description

The Ras Al Hadd coast is part of the natural reserve that is a safe habitat of hawks and green turtles, which is why the beach is divided into two areas: open area, available all day, and closed area, the access to which is regulated by the government. When staying in the reserve area, visitors can watch how young turtles hatch from their eggs and return to the sea during night and sunrise. The transparent waters of Gulf of Oman and the coral reefs near the coast attract amateur and experienced divers and underwater swimmers to Ras Al Hadd. Visitors can also walk along the coast, collect shells, partake in sea fishing or take a boat tour across the water area. The wind that blows from the land makes surfing and windsurfing impossible, however, experienced athletes can partake in kiting and sailing.

There's no natural shadow at Ras Al Hadd, but the stone huts make it possible to hide from the heat and relax. A parking lot and a toilet are also available. It's advised to wear slippers during walking, as the surface may contain sharp stones, glass shards and other garbage.

When is the best time to go?

Since in the summer in Oman the heat rises to 35-40 degrees, it is better to go to a cooler period – from October to March. However, it should be considered that during the New Year holidays there is a peak in the tourist season, which significantly affects the prices.
