Esclamandes beach

If you're yearning for the vast expanse of the Côte d'Azur without bumping into a sea of other vacationers, set your sights on Esclamandes Beach! Here, you can rest assured that your heels won't tread on anyone's head, and you won't fret over the energetic antics of your young children, thanks to the beach's safe conditions. Moreover, you can even sunbathe without a swimsuit (in designated areas, naturally) and embrace the freedom of the French Riviera.

Beach description

Esclamandes Beach, a gem on the Côte d'Azur, lies to the east of Fréjus, near the charming outskirts of Saint-Aygulf. This expansive sandy retreat is thoughtfully segmented into four distinct zones:

  • Family-friendly area;
  • Nudist section;
  • Surfers' haven;
  • Pet-friendly zone.

Despite the beach's reputation for strong winds and robust waves, three artificial breakwaters have been constructed to shield the main area, ensuring the waters near the shoreline remain tranquil and serene. The warm water is yet another advantage, particularly for families with young ones. The sea's entrance is gentle, even, and secure. Additionally, the beach administration offers complimentary specialized wheelchairs to ensure accessibility for individuals with disabilities.

The family section of the beach tends to be bustling with activity. Those seeking tranquility should head eastward, where the nudist area begins. Interestingly, the nudist population here is sparse, and they are respectful of their designated boundaries, ensuring a comfortable environment for families. This section is celebrated as the most picturesque nudist spot in the Var Department and is designated as an Untouchable Zone due to the presence of Lake Villepey within its confines.

It is important to note that swimming is prohibited in the area reserved for kitesurfers. Heed the warnings, as disregarding them could pose a serious risk to your safety.

Optimal Visiting Times

The French Riviera, also known as the Côte d'Azur, is a prime destination for beach enthusiasts. To make the most of your beach vacation, timing is essential. The best period to visit largely depends on your preferences for weather, crowd sizes, and local events.

  • Mid-May to Mid-September: This is the peak season when the weather is warm and sunny, perfect for beach activities. However, it's also the busiest time, so expect larger crowds and higher prices.
  • Late September to October: For those who prefer a quieter experience with mild weather, this is an ideal time. The sea remains warm enough for swimming, and the summer crowds have dissipated.
  • Spring: Late March to May offers pleasant weather, though the sea might still be too cool for swimming. It's a great time to enjoy the coastal scenery and outdoor cafes without the peak season's hustle.

Ultimately, the best time to visit the French Riviera for a beach vacation is late June to August if you're seeking vibrant beach life and don't mind the crowd. For a more relaxed trip with comfortable temperatures, consider late September to October.

Infrastructure

There are parking lots in front of the beach, but these lots become very busy during the peak season. Parking is paid, offering two tariffs for customers: a full day or half a day. In the latter case, the fee is still substantial – 3 Euros!

Facilities such as toilets and showers are available, and beach inspectors are on duty during the summer season. Although there are a couple of beach cafes, their prices tend to be quite high. Therefore, it's advisable to bring your own snacks. For added comfort, you can rent a sun lounger with an umbrella from the coffee bars, with the cost of this luxury being 20 Euros.
