Amrum Island Beach

The beach of Amrum Island is quite famous and popular in Germany, located west of Föhr Island, it is a group of North Frisian islands. Here, as in most resorts, sun loungers are replaced by traditional roofed wicker beach chair (baskets or chairs with a high canopy), which prevent from the winds of the North Sea or the sun, and the sand is fine enough and pricks a little, while absolutely no one pays attention to it as the main purpose of arrival on the island-a visit to the healing springs.

Beach description

The sea here is quite cold which means that swimming opportunities are limited, but it's a perfect spot to take a walk along the shore. Shallow is often seen near the shoreline, and there's a sudden depth spike further away - a unique feature of the North Sea. And the local air saturated with iodine and salt can heal skin and respiratory organ diseases.

You can get to the island via a ferry from Dagebull, it takes about two hours. The beach is always crowded especially since the constant winds attract surfing, yacht sports and kitesurfing enthusiasts. Those who like solitude and who want a change of scenery from the loud urban jungles to calm shores can definitely find a spot for themselves as Abram is a heaven for naturalists.

The main sights to see are the lighthouse with a watchtower 40 meters above the ground and Abram aquapark as well as the historical center of Nebel island. You can also take a unique colorful locomotive around the island to look at endless picturesque fields and the local nature, walk to the national park and the seal rookery.

When is the best time to go?

The best time to visit the beaches of Germany is July-August, when the Baltic Sea becomes warm enough for swimming, but the air is still cool enough for excursions.
