Since the 1970s, the beach has been synonymous with sports competitions and vibrant youth parties, which have become a hallmark of Buhne 16.

Alongside surfers, Buhne 16 is a haven for families with young children and mature couples. Children delight in the sand, constructing sand pies, while adults engage in football and volleyball, relish water sports, or simply soak up the sun. The beach is well-equipped with water closets, shower stalls, and sling chairs, and it features special wicker cabins for changing and sheltering from the elements.

Evenings at Buhne 16 are just as lively: older guests frequent beachside restaurants, while the youth revel in bars and discos until dawn. Many venture to the neighboring Campen beach, renowned for hosting the most electrifying beach parties, where European celebrities are often spotted. Numerous celebrities have invested in real estate on Sylt, with average prices ranging from 3 to 5 million Euros.

It is also noteworthy that Buhne 16 was the first nudist beach in Germany to gain official status in 1920. In recent times, the naturist community has gravitated towards Campen, where gay clubs and other alternative venues have emerged, attracting those who cherish a profound connection with nature and the freedom of spirit and body. This community is predominantly composed of youthful, athletic men and slender women with long hair that dances in the wind, though it also includes some of the original trailblazers of the nudist movement. The expansive beach allows all visitors to feel at ease, without giving undue attention to the presence or absence of clothing. Beach police maintain order vigilantly, imposing strict fines for breaches of decency or inappropriate conduct.

When is the best time to visit?

The best time to visit Germany for a beach vacation is during the summer months, from June to August. This period offers the most favorable weather conditions with warm temperatures and longer daylight hours.

• June: The onset of summer brings about a pleasant climate, ideal for sunbathing and swimming. Beaches are less crowded as the holiday season is just beginning.
• July: Peak tourist season, with the warmest weather. Expect more vibrant beach scenes and a variety of outdoor activities. However, be prepared for higher prices and more crowded spaces.
• August: Still within the high season, the weather remains suitable for beach vacations. Early August is preferable as the latter part can see a gradual dip in temperatures and an increase in rainfall.
