Ljugarn beach

The island of Gotland, the largest of the Swedish islands, is known both for its rich history and for its beaches. One of the most charming of them is Lugarn Beach: as well as one of the most visited and longest. This place has served as a resort for Swedes since the 19th century, and famous artists often came here.

Beach description

A sandy beach with small waves and a steep slope is suitable for single people and families with children or elderly people. Unlike most other Swedish beaches, Lugarn has no strong winds. Unfortunately, you cannot rent sun loungers or umbrellas here, but there are many small and comfortable hotels with their own beach equipment nearby.

Along the coast there are many small cafes and restaurants, mainly with fish cuisine and evening performances by musicians. Outside the beach, you can spend your leisure time at the golf club, take a walk in the fishing village or explore historical sights – the old customs and two local museums. If you are a lover of natural beauties, then be sure to check out the Kekurs – pillar-shaped rocks on the seashore.

When is the best time to go?

Vacation on the beaches of Sweden is best in July-August, when the water in the northern Baltic Sea becomes warm enough for swimming.
