Poe beach
Outside of the popular beaches of Noumea and the fabulous beaches of Uwea and Pin island, Poe beach is the most famous in New Caledonia. Located in Burai area on the western coast of the main island, Poe is one of the longest, most beautiful and at the sam time closest places. Tourists don't need to go by boats to get there: it's enough to have a car, map and a will to have a good holiday.

Beach description
The shore is 13 km long: sand here is darker than in other places of New Caledonia. Along its edges are rocks with striped color, sticking out of the water like the teeth of a dragon. Because of permanent moderate wind the water on Poe Beach doesn't have the usual azure hue and transparency, it's more blue and muddy. However it's not a problem for those who want to swim with mask and tube. In nearby coral reefs live various fish and molluscs. However tourists should take all the equipment and coverlets with because of the absence of rental agencies. Also take some food: nearest restaurants and cafes are not in walking distance.
When is it better to go?
The beaches of New Caledonia are accessible all year round, but the best season to visit them is the winter season, which lasts from October to May. Warm, dry weather with a temperature of + 24-26 °C prevails on the island at this time. Rains and tropical hurricanes await holidaymakers in the low (summer) season, from November to April.
