Fortune beach

Fortune Beach is a secluded beach on the southwestern edge of Grand Bahama Island, located adjacent to Cape Smiths in the Freeport area. It owes its name to the shipwreck of the treasure ship that took place here. Now this is a little-visited beach coast without any amenities, but its proximity to the center and distance from noisy crowds attract those who seek to find a lost paradise oasis on the ocean.

Beach description

Magically transparent aquamarine waters and vast shallow water area provide all the conditions for safe swimming and snorkeling. Small waves attract novice kiters and windsurfers. Numerous palm trees and other exotic vegetation create natural sun shelters on the beach. The beach is covered with light gray, very fine sand that is extremely clean and suitable even for walking on feet.

On the beach western edge, you can find a beach bar, and on the east edge, a small restaurant. A shallow lagoon is formed in the beach eastern part during the ebbs. In general, Fortuna Beach is a perfect place for wild rest but families with children should better choose another beach, more equipped.

When is the best time to go?

Holidays in the Bahamas are good at any time of the year, but the busy season is in the period from mid-November to May. The Bahamas are disposed quite low in relation to sea level, so the wind blows in the winter months, but it is gentle and soberly pleasant. The air temperature is between 27-29 degrees from the end of autumn to the beginning of summer. Traveling with children, it is better to come in the autumn months, while the spring is more appropriate to go for new emotions, and peacefully enjoy the sunshine – in winter.
