Lucayan beach

The Bahamas are famous over the world for their pristine beaches and vibrant tropical landscapes. However, Lucayan Beach is considered to be one of the most popular tourist beaches in the Grand Bahama. It is a wide, spacious strip of white sand, bordered around the perimeter by large palm trees and the crystal clear turquoise waters of the Atlantic Ocean. This place deserves special attention due to its well-developed infrastructure and ideal conditions for water sports.

Beach description

Lucaya Beach is one of the most crowded places on Bahamian Islands. This sand beach, stretching for acres, is a picturesque place for long walks along the shore. It will be perfect for travelers wishing to communicate and to make new acquaintances. Although the beach is often visited by families with kids as well, due to the fact that the bottom is even and shallow, and fine sand is perfect "construction material" for kids' games like building castles and digging ditches.

The beach is connected with two neighboring beaches, Coral and Silver Point, which makes it the best place for joggers and foot passengers looking for a continuous site of coastline. You can run up to 2 miles (3 kilometers) on even soft sand, and then swim in cool and clear water. One couldn't imagine the better start of the day...

Calm waves prevail on the beach that create wonderful waters for surfing but, at the same time, don't prevent from relaxed swimming in Caribbean waters. Wind blows almost often at this area, which is not a surprise for the open ocean. At least once in life, a person deserves to see the Earth paradise in his/her own eyes. Of course, the pictures of this beach from any point can be found online now but no photo will convey these incredible flavors, flair, and temper.

When is the best time to go?

Holidays in the Bahamas are good at any time of the year, but the busy season is in the period from mid-November to May. The Bahamas are disposed quite low in relation to sea level, so the wind blows in the winter months, but it is gentle and soberly pleasant. The air temperature is between 27-29 degrees from the end of autumn to the beginning of summer. Traveling with children, it is better to come in the autumn months, while the spring is more appropriate to go for new emotions, and peacefully enjoy the sunshine – in winter.

Infrastructure

At the beach guests can enjoy a variety of water sports, from parasailing to snorkelling, or relax with a refreshing drink in one of the lively bars right on the beach overlooking the Atlantic. Get ready that even here you will find enterprising local "businessmen" offering braids or to conduct excursions. There are several shops on the beach where you can rent snorkelling gear, kayaks or banana boats.

The beach is located across from the famous market in the port of Lucaya, which leaves its mark on the atmosphere of this place. It is always noisy, fun and interesting here. Lucaya Beach is a popular destination among cruise ship passengers who visit the harbor for a few days to get a decent dose of local tropical flavor. Stay at least a day at one of the resort's hotels to take advantage of the pools and other amenities. For example, at Pelican Bay.

Be sure to visit the port market: there are more than fifty shops, as well as more than ten restaurants of local cuisine, the hallmark of which are seafood and exotic fruits. Local artisans also offer their straw products on the market, although these are not the only souvenirs typical of the Bahamas that can be seen in this market.

Useful information

  1. A short walk from the beach is the diving center UNEXSO (Underwater Explorers Society). They offer services and activities for both experienced and inexperienced divers. An experienced instructor will tell you how to dive, and also offer you to try one of the unforgettable experiences – swimming with dolphins in a protected lagoon.
  2. This is a typical tourist beach, so it provides services for every taste – if only there were funds, as they say. Everyone can afford the most primitive set in the form of a chaise lounge and an umbrella, and then it all depends on the thickness of your wallet.
  3. The local "highlight" among the attractions is Lucayan Park, which covers all the ecological zones of the Bahamas. It is home to one of the world's longest underwater cave system. Here you can take a walk or ride a horse along well-marked routes that run through the deciduous forests of the park, mangrove swamps and rocky groves. Explore caves filled with bats and admire the rich diversity of Bahamas vegetation.
