Peterson Cay beach

Peterson Cay in the Bahamas is one of the smallest national park islands with an area of 0.6 hectares, located less than two kilometers from the main island. The park was founded on April 1, 1968. Although the place is popular, it is not overcrowded. Peterson Cay Beach is wild, so there is no infrastructure for a comfortable vacation. You can get to the beach by boat, jet ski or kayak from Freeport, the main city of Grand Bahama.

Beach description

Peterson kay mostly consists of light gray and white hilly limestone with tropical trees, and the territory of the small beach is covered with snow white sand which also covers the bottom of this magnificent place.

Peterson is washed by crystal clear azure waters of the Caribbean Sea with rich underwater life. This is why this small island attracts diving and snorkeling fans. Just a few meters away from the beach, you can observe picturesque gardens of coral reefs with sea fans, elk horns, sponges, among which, bright tropical fish, swift devilfish and proud barracudas were hunting.

In spite of the fact that winds are frequent on Bahamas, they are usually absent on Peterson Cay. The sea in this part of the Bahamas is calm and quiet with the safe shallow water entry.

When is it better to go?

Holidays in the Bahamas are good at any time of the year, but the busy season is in the period from mid-November to May. The Bahamas are disposed quite low in relation to sea level, so the wind blows in the winter months, but it is gentle and soberly pleasant. The air temperature is between 27-29 degrees from the end of autumn to the beginning of summer. Traveling with children, it is better to come in the autumn months, while the spring is more appropriate to go for new emotions, and peacefully enjoy the sunshine – in winter.
