Junkanoo beach

Junkanoo Beach is a small, lively beach with developed infrastructure, located almost in the very center of Nassau, not far from the harbor. It owes its name to a dance parade held annually in the Bahamas. Among cruise ship tourists, Junkanoo Beach is also known as Western Esplanade Beach or Lighthouse Beach.

Beach description

Junkanoo Beach is a municipal public beach which is a narrow white sand band covered with palm trees. Situated right in the haven, at a distance of 10-15 minutes away from the port, it differs with the following:

  • calm sea;
  • smooth water entry;
  • large shallow water area.

Due to this, Junkanoo Beach is a perfect place for family vacation, especially with small kids. The city quay is located along the beach, that is why, while choosing it for vacation, it should be borne in mind that it is always crowded, and Jukanoo is often over-crowded during the spring vacations. And people who prefer quiet rest are recommended to choose a more quiet place.

The sea in the beach area is clear and transparent, the bottom is sandy which makes it comfortable to enter water. Palms growing on the beach form natural shadow, a nice shelter during the hot day. People wishing to save money can stay on their home towels here.

Junkanoo Beach is convenient for swimming and sunbathing. Moreover, its visitors can engage in scuba-diving and sup surfing by taking the equipment from home or renting it right on the beach.

When is it better to go?

Holidays in the Bahamas are good at any time of the year, but the busy season is in the period from mid-November to May. The Bahamas are disposed quite low in relation to sea level, so the wind blows in the winter months, but it is gentle and soberly pleasant. The air temperature is between 27-29 degrees from the end of autumn to the beginning of summer. Traveling with children, it is better to come in the autumn months, while the spring is more appropriate to go for new emotions, and peacefully enjoy the sunshine – in winter.
