Mardakany beach
Mardakan is a coastal strip of sandy beaches, located in the resort village of the same name just 40 km from Baku, on the northern outskirts of the Absheron Peninsula. In terms of cleanliness of sand and sea waters, this coast is considered to be one of the best in the vicinity of the capital, and it is also the most visited, because of the proximity to the captital and well-developed infrastructure. The beaches of this resort are popular among families with children and young people - everyone can find here entertaining options for beach (and not only) leisure.

Beach description
Because of the cleanest coastline and sea waters, the Mardakans are often called the true “pearl of Baku near the sea”. Therefore, it is not surprising, that during the season there is more crowded, than on any other beaches in the neighborhood of the capital, and this is the main minus. But otherwise, the beach coastline of Mardakan pleasantly pleases with white sand and ideal conditions for rest.
The entire long coastline is divided into several separate beach areas, among which there are both free and paid recreational areas, including a separate area with a water park, which is especially popular among merried couples with children. Significant shallow water near the coast allows to relax on the beach even with small children.
It is worth considering, that it is often windy here. For swimming in the sea, it is not so scary, since especially high waves are not formed. But when resting on the coast, it is possible to experience not very comfortable sensations, when the wind raises fine sand, falling into eyes. Therefore, in such weather, it is better to rent sunbeds in the equipped beach area, and not on the sandy coast itself.
When is the best time to go?
The most favorable time for a trip to Azerbaijan is May-June, when the temperature on the beaches has a comfortable rest. If you can withstand high temperatures when the thermometer does not drop below 30 degrees, then July and August are also suitable for a trip.

Infrastructure
The coast of Mardakan is distinguished by its equipment. For an additional payment on any of its sections you can get sunbeds, parasols and deck chairs for use. Paid locker rooms and showers, as well as toilets, are available on the whole beach.
Near the beach, you can also rent gazebos for relaxation; food and drinks can be purchased from merchants wandering along the shore. There is also a cafe with terraces. In season, a lifeguard tower functions on the beach. Lovers of active rest can rent quads and water scooters.
In the 19th century, the Mardakyany village was known as a prestigious resort, many summer cottages and mansions of famous Baku oil industrialists were built in its vicinity. Also here you can find many accommodations available for living that have different levels of prices and comfort.

- During the Soviet Union, the Mardakans represented one of the all-Union health resorts. The fame of the health resort is still known for the village - there are many sanatoriums here, and the air of these places is especially clean and beneficial to the health of vacationers.
- While relaxing in this resort, in addition to the beaches, you should pay attention to local attractions. The most iconic among them are:
- Yesenin's house-museum - the poet wrote a series of Persian motifs here;
- fortresses of the Shirvanshah era (Round and Quadrangular towers) and ancient tombs (17th and early 20th centuries);
- The Mardakan arboretum, featuring a particularly rich collection of plants growing in it and considered one of the most beautiful corners of the nature of the Absheron Peninsula.
You can also visit the Qala Archaeological Museum-Reserve located near the resort.

Those wishing to get to the beach by public transport should take a shuttle bus to Koroğlu metro station in Baku, and in Mardakan stop at the Arboretum stop and walk or take a local taxi to the coast. On a rented car, you can get to the beach from the capital faster, the journey takes about 40 minutes.
