Beach description

The name of the beach is translated from Japanese as "on the crest of a wave." This is not true, since the ocean waters in the Naminoue area are quiet and serene thanks to powerful breakwaters. Special nets protect the beach from the penetration of dangerous marine creatures, so swimming on Naminoue is as comfortable and safe as in an outdoor pool.

The beach is small, very comfortable, the coast is covered with snow-white soft sand. The sky blue water is clean and clear. The general image is slightly spoiled with a bridge with a motorway passing through it, which blocks the ocean view. The noise of the city does not allow to relax completely. Therefore, true fans of beach holidays prefer to go away to other parts of the island, and Naminoue is visited mainly by tourists and residents of neighboring areas.

The beach is open from nine in the morning until six in the evening, in the high season for an hour longer. Admission is free, but you have to pay for using the toilet, showers and lockers. The fee is also taken for the rental of umbrellas, sun loungers and folding chairs. There is a first aid station, rescuers monitor the shore. You can have a barbecue and lie on soft grass in the shade of trees In a nearby park.

When is the best time to go?

If in the north of Japan, in Hokkaido, the weather in January-February is quite wintery, in the southern islands the temperature rarely drops below 20 degrees even in the cold season. In summer, the rainy season comes in Japan, when the humidity becomes almost one hundred percent, and the thermometer is at 30 to 40 degrees.   Therefore, the best time to travel to Japan – is late spring or early autumn.

Useful information

Naha is the biggest city of Okinawa and a real catch for curious tourists who prefer to combine a beach holiday with a tour of local attractions. Its pearl is considered to be the ancient castle of Shuri, the residence of the rulers of the island since the time of the existence of the state of Ryukyu.

Next to it is the amazingly beautiful Shikina-en Garden, along the picturesque alleys of which members of the royal family walked many centuries ago. Another colorful park with charming ponds and cascading waterfalls in the Chinese style can be found along the road from the cruise terminal to the main street of Kokusai. It is called Fukushuen, opened as a sign of friendship between Naha and Chinese Fuzhou.

And surely you should look into the Naminoue Temple, towering above the beach of the same name, take pictures with colorful statues of Okinawan lions at the entrance and admire the wonderful panorama that opens from above. And you can see the whole city in a twenty-minute ride from the monorail trailer, which routes from the center to the airport.

Shopping enthusiasts surely appreciate a walk along Kokusai, the main street of the city, where the best shops and restaurants of Naha are concentrated. Here you can buy traditional Japanese souvenirs (ceramics, fabrics, glassware and glazes), taste local delicacies and sweets, as well as visit the famous Makishi Public Market, the largest in Okinawa.
