Sukuji beach

Sukuji is one of the most picturesque sandy beaches on Ishigaki Island. It's located near the Kabira bay, just 15 minutes away from it and about an hour away from the island's airport. It's one of the most accessible beaches on Ishigaki, which means it may get quite crowded during high season.

Beach description

The 1 km long coastline is covered in grainy white sand that is contrasting to the emerald-colored plants surrounding the area and the transparent azure water. The water is the main reason why this beach is among the best for swimming and underwater exploration.

A special net protects the local coastal waters from the dangerous jellyfish, and rescue workers operate here during Summer, which makes swimming here very safe. The shallow coastal water and lack of waves makes it possible to bring children to Sukuji. The sea bottom here is predominantly sandy, but some parts of it, both on the coast and in the coastal waters, are rocky.

When is the best time to go?

If in the north of Japan, in Hokkaido, the weather in January-February is quite wintery, in the southern islands the temperature rarely drops below 20 degrees even in the cold season. In summer, the rainy season comes in Japan, when the humidity becomes almost one hundred percent, and the thermometer is at 30 to 40 degrees.   Therefore, the best time to travel to Japan – is late spring or early autumn.
