Baishawan beach

Located on the northern coast of Taiwan, adjacent to the vibrant city of New Taipei, Baishawan Beach is a stunning coastal gem nestled in the Shimen area of Taipei County. As one of the most popular and scenic beaches in northern Taiwan, its name, which translates from Chinese as "White Sand Bay," perfectly encapsulates the pristine beauty visitors can expect. With its fine, powdery sand and crystal-clear waters, Baishawan Beach beckons travelers seeking a picturesque escape.

Beach description

The picturesque, crescent-shaped Baishawan Beach is sheltered from the wind and high waves by the Linshan and Fugui capes. It boasts a one-kilometer-long stretch of white sand, excellent surfing conditions, and a breathtaking coastline. The central part of the beach offers the most comfortable swimming experience - with a smooth entrance to the water and a flat sandy bottom. A designated safe swimming area is marked by buoys, and vigilant lifeguards keep watch. The coastal area is well-equipped with amenities such as sun loungers, umbrellas, and beach tents, as well as toilets, showers, and changing cabins.

Extreme sports enthusiasts and water entertainment aficionados are drawn to the western and eastern extremities of the beach. Here, one can surf and board without restrictions, ride jet skis, or water ski. Paragliding enthusiasts will find the surrounding hills to be excellent launch pads for thrilling flights over the scenic coast.

Hiking lovers will be enthralled by the numerous trails weaving through streams of petrified lava. In some areas, the remnants of volcanic rocks form small, natural pools, trapping fish during the retreating tide. To the west lies the quaint Linshanbi Beach, created by an ancient volcanic eruption, while the eastern side is home to Qianshuiwan Beach, renowned for its cozy coastal restaurants serving delectable local cuisine.

When is the Best Time to Visit?

The best time to visit Taiwan for a beach vacation is typically from April to October, when the island enjoys warm, tropical weather ideal for sunbathing, swimming, and water sports. However, there are a few periods within this range that are particularly noteworthy:

    • Late April to June: This period is before the summer crowds and the risk of typhoons is lower. The weather is comfortably warm, and the water temperatures are pleasant for swimming.
    • July and August: These are the hottest months, perfect for beachgoers looking to soak up the sun. However, it's also peak tourist season, so expect more crowded beaches and higher prices.
    • September to October: The weather remains warm, but the peak tourist season has passed, making it a great time for those seeking a more tranquil beach experience. Be mindful of the increased chance of typhoons during this period.

Regardless of the time you choose, Taiwan's beaches, such as those in Kenting National Park or along the scenic east coast, offer a delightful escape with their golden sands and crystal-clear waters.
