Fulong beach

Stretching along the village of Fulong, a three-kilometer coastline is adorned with fine golden sand - a rarity in Taiwan. The azure waters of the Pacific Ocean and the lush emerald hues of coastal vegetation create an idyllic scene that every beach holiday enthusiast dreams of.

The Shuang River bisects Fulong into two distinct areas - external and internal - linked by the picturesque Rainbow Footbridge.

• The external part is essentially an island, its shape and size fluctuating with the river's tides. Here, the absence of natural shade necessitates bringing beach umbrellas, ample drinking water, and sunscreen. Access to the beach requires a fee, with operating hours from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Typically, this segment of the beach garners the most visitors; hence, arriving early is advisable to secure a prime spot. The outer beach is particularly favored by families with young children, who delight in crafting sand sculptures and frolicking in the gentle, warm coastal waters - both calm and safe. However, during the winter season, Taiwan is prone to severe storms and even typhoons, for which the coast guard provides timely warnings to tourists. During such events, the external beach may be restricted or entirely closed.
• The internal beach lies within the coastal section of Fulong village and offers a well-appointed leisure area. Visitors can rent umbrellas and sun loungers, as well as boats, canoes, surfboards, and other sporting equipment. Conveniently, coastal cafes are available for a quick bite, or one can opt for lunch boxes sold by vendors - a budget-friendly fast food option comprising rice, vegetables, and meat in a special box. Entrance to the beach is also paid, and facilities include toilets, showers, and changing rooms. Parking is available, though it may reach capacity during peak season and weekends.

A short journey eastward reveals a quaint, free beach. This spot lacks the usual conveniences but offers unfettered access after 6 p.m. It's a favored locale for picnics and romantic outings under the glow of the setting sun.

The best time to visit Taiwan for a beach vacation is typically from April to October, when the island enjoys warm, tropical weather ideal for sunbathing, swimming, and water sports. However, there are a few periods within this range that are particularly noteworthy:

• Late April to June: This period is before the summer crowds and the risk of typhoons is lower. The weather is comfortably warm, and the water temperatures are pleasant for swimming.
• July and August: These are the hottest months, perfect for beachgoers looking to soak up the sun. However, it's also peak tourist season, so expect more crowded beaches and higher prices.
• September to October: The weather remains warm, but the peak tourist season has passed, making it a great time for those seeking a more tranquil beach experience. Be mindful of the increased chance of typhoons during this period.

Regardless of the time you choose, Taiwan's beaches, such as those in Kenting National Park or along the scenic east coast, offer a delightful escape with their golden sands and crystal-clear waters.
