Honeymoon Bay beach
Honeymoon Bay, a quaint enclave nestled along the northeastern coast of Taiwan, has recently surged in popularity among both local and international surfers, thanks to its formidable waves that can reach heights of up to three meters. Beach description
The bay, with its crystal-clear waters, boasts a crescent shape that has lent it its name. The northern and southern parts of the bay are strewn with rocks and coral formations, while at its center lies a beautiful, cozy beach adorned with dark gray volcanic sand. Directly opposite, the famed Geishan Island (Turtle Island) can be seen. It is the only active volcano in Taiwan and periodically demonstrates its formidable power.
Despite the idyllic and serene appearance of the beach, it is not suitable for swimming or relaxing with young children. The seabed's topography features sharp variations, leading to the formation of high waves, particularly in the winter months. Consequently, Honeymoon Bay primarily attracts surfers, fishermen, and those who appreciate unspoiled nature and a tranquil retreat from the urban hustle and bustle. The area also draws researchers studying the deep sea and natural ecosystems, which have remained unscathed by destructive human activities.
However, the main attractions are surfing and other exhilarating water sports. Several pavilions are set up along the shore, offering equipment rentals and the opportunity to take lessons from professional instructors.
Encircling the beach is a verdant lawn and dense, shady trees, providing the perfect setting for a picnic or even an overnight camping experience. A spring with potable water is located near the temple, and there is complimentary municipal parking available.
When is the best time to visit?
The best time to visit Taiwan for a beach vacation is typically from April to October, when the island enjoys warm, tropical weather ideal for sunbathing, swimming, and water sports. However, there are a few periods within this range that are particularly noteworthy:
- Late April to June: This period is before the summer crowds and the risk of typhoons is lower. The weather is comfortably warm, and the water temperatures are pleasant for swimming.
- July and August: These are the hottest months, perfect for beachgoers looking to soak up the sun. However, it's also peak tourist season, so expect more crowded beaches and higher prices.
- September to October: The weather remains warm, but the peak tourist season has passed, making it a great time for those seeking a more tranquil beach experience. Be mindful of the increased chance of typhoons during this period.
Regardless of the time you choose, Taiwan's beaches, such as those in Kenting National Park or along the scenic east coast, offer a delightful escape with their golden sands and crystal-clear waters.

Infrastructure
Access to the beach is complimentary; however, the usual infrastructure is practically absent. Among the amenities are only portable toilets and garbage containers. Food and drinks are available for purchase from mobile tents on wheels, while the nearest shops and restaurants are situated in the village, a thirty-minute walk from the beach. Additionally, there is a magnificent market where you can acquire ripe tropical fruits and freshly caught seafood.
Directly on the beach, there are no hotels or campsites - the closest accommodations are in the town of Toucheng or near the Dasi railway station and the fishing port. One of the most appealing lodging options is the Ocean Sky B&B, which is budget-friendly while offering clean and comfortable accommodations. Spacious rooms come equipped with satellite TV and air conditioning, and tidy bathrooms include all necessary hygiene items. Guests enjoy complimentary parking and free internet access, as well as the chance to unwind in the shady garden or have a picnic in the barbecue area. The balconies boast magnificent views of the sea and the surrounding landscape, with the beach just a ten-minute walk away. Additionally, guests can purchase discounted surfing lessons and book boat trips to Turtle Island.

Well, at the end of our review, it is impossible not to mention the famous Turtle Island, which is a must-see of northern Taiwan. Pleasure boats with tourists wishing to enjoy geysers, spurting directly from the ground and unique sulfuric springs with healing water regularly leave Dasi fishing port for him. On the island you can fully enjoy the untouched pristine nature, feel the power and magnificence of the Pacific Ocean and even observe whales in their natural environment.
