Pineda de Mar beach

Pineda de Mar on Costa del Maresme is one of the picturesque resorts in Barcelona province of Catalonia, located between Calella and Santa Susanna about 55 km away from Barcelona. The small town that was developed from a fisherman village attracts tourists from all over the world with its great beach, awarded with the Blue flag for its environmental friendliness, and the opportunity to have a calm vacation without the typical bustle of popular tourist destinations.

Beach description

The 3 km long beach of Pineda de Mar is known for the cleanliness of its territory and the coastal waters. The large colorful sand varies from silver to golden yellow and covers the area with a thick layer, slowly sinking in the water and guaranteeing the solidness of the sea bottom. Unexperienced swimmers should take notes - the smooth descent abruptly turns into quite deep water. You need to be especially careful if you're bringing children.

The beach is located in an open terrain, so this part of Costa del Maresme often has windy weather. The wave height is average, but they become very tall during windy weather and intimidate even those far from the beach. A special yellow flag that signifies that swimming is dangerous is hung during these days. However, a high wave is every surfer's dream, and they won't be stopped by flags. A storm warning is marked by a red or a black flag that signifies that swimming is prohibited, but these days are very rare during high swimming season.

The area is equipped with showers, toilets, rental stores with umbrellas and sunbeds, with their average cost being 10 Euros.

The territory also has:

  • first-aid posts;
  • rescue service;
  • ramps for people with disabilities;
  • children's club;
  • playgrounds with sports equipment;
  • cafes;
  • boat rental.

Pineda de Mar isn't very crowded. Spanish, German and English visitors can be encountered here. Recent years have also seen a rise of tourists from Eastern countries. People of all ages come here - from families with children to young tourists to elderly people.

When is it better to go

The beach season on the coast of Spain falls on the period from May to October. The water and air temperature reaches the most comfortable levels, thereby guaranteeing tourists a perfect vacation.

Where to eat

  • When searching for a decent establishment to visit, don't forget to follow the local tradition of siesta, when all the citizens go on a dinner break and take a rest. Siesta can last 3-4 hours - from about 14:00 to about 18:00. All establishments, including bars and cafes, are closed during this period.
  • If you decide to visit Pineda de Mar, you should try the local ham that residents here eat roasted, fried etc., and also don't forget to try the traditional Catalan seafood - sea bass, eel, angler, mackerel, tuna, shrimps, cuttlefish etc. Tapas (meat and vegetable snacks), black paella with cuttlefish ink, Catalan wine and Spanish port wine are especially worth trying.

What to do

  • Pineda de Mar is a beautiful provincial town soaked in the pine aroma. Many unique monuments of old Spanish architecture have been preserved until today. It's pleasing to walk along the narrow streets and get acquainted with the town and local traditions. Rental stores, where you can get a bicycle and explore the town and its outskirts, are located near the hotel, the beach and in the town center.
  • The tourist part of the town has sports complexes, football fields and tennis courts. Sailing is especially popular.
