Bronte beach

Bronte is a small but popular sandy beach in the eastern suburbs of Sydney. It was named after the Duke of Bronte (better known as vice admiral Nelson). Bronte is connected to the neighboring beaches of Bondi and Coogee by a paved promenade along the rocky coast. On this trail you can often meet trekkers and runners. Every December, long distance swimming competitions are held between the beaches of Bondi and Bronte.

Beach description

Bronte Beach, famous for its strong tides, is popular among surfers. World-known Jessi Miley-Dyer was perfecting her skills here. Swimmers that are not confident about their skills can use a natural 30-meter swimming pool in the southern rocky part of the beach which is the most famous in Sydney. There is also a shallow swimming pool for children. Several popular cafes stand opposite to bath-houses.

On the northern beach edge, close to the stairs, there is a large cave naturally formed from sandrock. It is supposed that this shelter was used by local indigenous persons.

Bronte, near the shore of which, a dangerous current flows, is daily patrolled by rescuers, and by volunteers on weekends and on holidays. The oldest surf club in the world taht opened in 1903 is situated here. The beach zone borders on the public park with picnic sites, BBQ kits, and the parking lot.

When is it better to go

The busiest swimming season in Australia lasts from December to February. In this summer, for the southern latitudes, the mainland heats up to 25-30 °C, in places up to 40 °C. In winter (June to August) the air is cooled down to 11 °C. May and September are considered the best beach months with a cloudless sky and not too active sun.
