Byron beach

Byron is the main recreational area of Byron Bay, which is the easternmost point of mainland Australia. The beach and the city are connected not only by a walking trail, but also by one name. They are named after George Byron, an officer in the British Navy and navigator.

Beach description

The undeniable natural beauty of Byron Beach, its fine white sand and calm clear water are supplemented by developed infrastructure. The facilities include:

  • sportive and children's grounds,
  • public water closets,
  • shower stalls and taps,
  • drinking fountain,
  • paid parking lot,
  • BBQ kits,
  • picnic tables.

People who love active sports will appreciate kayaking and snorkeling tours (the gulf waters have numerous remains of ships that suffered wreckage), whale observation, and ballooning. Novice surfers are taught the art of mastering waves. The beach patrolled by rescuers (and by volunteers on weekends and on holidays).

The closest sights are the legendary lighthouse on Cape Byron, Alex Park, and the oldest Australian surf club. Sport fans can visit events in local golf, cricket, rugby, gliding, paragliding, and bowling centers. Ocean Swim Classic tournament is held on Byron Beach annually.

When is it better to go

The busiest swimming season in Australia lasts from December to February. In this summer, for the southern latitudes, the mainland heats up to 25-30 °C, in places up to 40 °C. In winter (June to August) the air is cooled down to 11 °C. May and September are considered the best beach months with a cloudless sky and not too active sun.
