El Laucho is one of the best beaches of Arica town, in the north of the country.

Beach description
The beach, covered in light clean sand, is located on the coast of a small bay surrounded by sandy hills. The descent is smooth and the bottom is sandy. The waves are low due to the breakwater, and the water is much warmer than in the other places along the coast.
El Laucho is equipped with sunbeds, umbrellas, changing rooms and showers. Many cafes, snack bars and booths with ice cream, sweets and cold beverages are set up around the beach. You can also dine in one of the coastal restaurants.
El Laucho is usually crowded. Locals and Chileans from other regions of the country make up the majority of its guests. Not a lot of tourists can be met. The place is perfect for families with children. There's a playground with slides and swing sets.
When is it better to go
The beach season in Chile begins in October and ends in March. Do not forget that the Peruvian current (Humboldt Current) prevents a full beach holiday, as it carries cold streams from Antarctica along the coastline of South America.

The 140 m tall Morro de Arica hill, with an observation deck and an 11 m tall statue of Jesus Christ, also known as Cristo de la Concordia, on top of it, is located near El Laucho.
The Chacalluta International Airport is located 18 km away from Arica. You can get to the town by taxi, bus or rented car.
