Castara beach

Castara Beach is a picturesque beach in the same name bay on the west coast of a fishing village, which is located on the northern outskirts of Tobago. This is a great holiday destination for those who don't like the bustling resorts of Trinidad and the urban areas of Tobago. While on neighboring beaches you can find the same paradise conditions as on Castara, here it is usually less crowded and a more secluded romantic atmosphere reigns.

Beach description

Castara Beach is a picturesque crescent-shaped coast covered with soft light brown sand and surrounded by coconut trees. In its waters, you can always see colourful fishing boats because the village is famous for its long fishing traditions. The length of the beach is only 308 m but the conditions here allow to satisfy for all tastes.

  • The sea is clean and calm, this creates excellent conditions for snorkeling. The attractiveness of scuba diving is given by the presence of huge rays in the local waters, called manta ray.
  • On the northern edge of the beach there is a small bay (Heaven Bay) with a colourful coral reef that attracts diving enthusiasts. There are also underwater cliffs with a unique marine fauna.
  • This beach is also interesting for fishing lovers. If you rent a fishing boat in the vicinity of Castara Beach you can go to the sea and before sunset come back with freshly caught fish, which can be cooked on a fire on the shore.

Castara is not a crowded beach but there are usually a few people. This is a great place to escape from the rowdy crowds that prevail on most Caribbean beaches.

When is the best time to go?

In the mid and late summer (and sometimes fall) Trinidad and Tobago flooded by rains.  Therefore, the best time to travel is the beginning of the year, the months from February to May.
