Colombus Bay beach

Columbus Bay is a wild beach located in the extreme south of Trinidad. It is decorated with natural arches, majestic mountains, dense forests and white sand. Another advantage of the beach is the calm sea of the light turquoise color. This is an ideal place for people who want to relax in the wilderness.

Beach description

Columbus Bay is a 4-kilometer beach with a width of 150 meters. Its surface and the seabed are covered with soft sand of a light cream color. It is surrounded by a dense palm forest providing clean air and almost absolute silence. Also, trees serve as a great place to relax - under them you can hide from the sun or wait out the rain.

The coastal sea is very calm. It is characterized by small waves, a light turquoise color and crystal clearness. There is a smooth depth increase and a refreshing wind at 70% of the coast. This location is also rich in fish. It is inhabited by marlin, barracuda, tuna, sailboat, euonymus and other inhabitants of the kingdom of Neptune.

You can see the mainland (Venezuela) and three huge rocks piercing the sea from the coast of the bay. Whole flocks of birds nest on them in clear weather. The northern part of the coast is decorated with high mountains with dense forests and unusual caves. There are also the main attractions of the beach - a huge arch consisting of rock and a natural pool with a small waterfall. They are especially beautiful during strong winds and large waves.

The best time to visit this place is during the low tide. At this time, the beach area expands significantly, and natural pools are formed on its territory. Interesting fact: the bay is not accidentally named after Christopher Columbus. The great navigator landed here in 1498 (during the course of the third expedition). Prior to this, the leg of the European never stepped on the land of Tobago.

The beach is ideal for introverts and fans of a relaxing holiday. There are no merchants, package tourists. No more than 4-5 dozens of people usually rest on the shore practicing the following activities:

  • exploration of forests, sea caves and hidden bays;
  • sunbathing, swimming and scuba diving;
  • climbing and walking along the seashore;
  • picnics under the shade of palm trees and the gentle sun;
  • diving in the rocky parts of the beach;
  • surfing and sailing;
  • fishing by the sea.

When is the best time to go?

In the mid and late summer (and sometimes fall) Trinidad and Tobago flooded by rains.  Therefore, the best time to travel is the beginning of the year, the months from February to May.
