Pemba Island beach

The coral island of Pemba is located 50 km from Zanzibar in East Africa. People get to the resort by boat or local airlines. The island has retained its authenticity, that is why so many travelers choose it for exploring the culture of Tanzania.

Beach description

Pemba is a calm island with the necessary infrastructure and areas of wild and untouched nature. People come here for a relaxing holiday, peace and tranquility.

The main beaches are located in Vete area and in the north of the island: Mbuyuni, Wumavimbi, Panga Ja Vatoro. Many colorful reefs along the coast attract diving enthusiasts. There are diving centers on the island. Another popular sport in Pemba is deep sea fishing. A hammerhead shark, a whale shark, and humpback whales can be found in the strait of the same name. Local sights include:

  • Fort Nanjing,
  • the abandoned Arab city of Mkama Ndume,
  • a lighthouse on the northern cape of the island of Ras Kigoma.

Travel agencies offer to go on excursions to the Ngezi protected forest, as well as a boat trip to the nearest islands.

When is it better to go

The climate of Tanzania is monsoon, the sun is active. The best time to relax – is from July to March. The rainy season falls on April, May and November. February – is a swing of the Tanzanian summer, the air temperature reaches +38 degrees during the day, the water warms up to +30 degrees. In Zanzibar there is a difference of 6 - 10 degrees, with the constant gusts from sea.
