Erretegia beach

It is situated in the southern part of New Aquitaine and belongs to Pyrénées-Atlantiques Department. I is located in the surroundings of the resort town of Bidar and is the most picturesque and visited beach in these places.

Beach description

This relatively small snug beach extends at the foot of a hill densely covered with trees and shrubs. A loose ground path which leads to it, becomes quite slippery in the rain, so visitors should have comfortable shoes. People with disabilities should choose the beach just north because access to this one is much easier and more comfortable.

The beach is covered with coarse sand mixed with small pebbles that looks like pearl barley. Thanks to it sand does not fly in the face in high wind, and it is possible to do without sunbed and lie on your own towel.

The beach is equipped with toilets and shower stalls, it has a rescue station and a small snackbar. The waves are comfortable enough for swimming and surfing. There is an opportunity to play beach volleyball and other outdoor games.

Further south, behind the cliff is the Royal Pavilion beach (Royal Pavilion) next to which a golf course is located. From the north, Erretegia borders on the central beach of Bidart Center, which is quite noisy and overcrowded.

When is the best time to go?

It is possible to relax in France at any time of the year, the time of the trip depends more on your preferences. Summer - a great time to travel to the sea. Thanks to the Mediterranean climate, even on the southern French Riviera is not hot weather. In winter , people go to ski resorts in France. It should be be mindful that in summer and winter in France there is a high season, respectively, prices soar. To enjoy the excursions, choose the time from February to April or from September to November, when both in the north and in the south it is not very crowded. If you go to the French Riviera in September, you will never lose: You will find a time when the weather is still warm and the prices are not so high.

Infrastructure

Free parking is located 250 meters from the beach, on the top of the hill, and there is a bus stop nearby. Also, you can have a good time in Kala Txiki traditional Basque restaurant, enjoy a cup of excellent coffee, try local dishes and admire an amazing scenery.

The hotels and villas closest to the sea are located along Corniche de la Falaise street. One of the most attractive alternatives is a hotel Bidarte. The rooms are tempting because of harmonious combination of modern comfort and a warm homely atmosphere, and neatly trimmed lawns tune into a lyrical manner. It takes five minutes of slow walk to reach Erretegia beach, and there is a distance of no more than one kilometer to get to the settlement center.

Useful information

Bidart surroundings are incredibly interasting and picturesque, they would be totally perfect for hiking or cycling. It would be better to determine routes as well as use the services of a guide in local travel agencies One of the most popular destinations is a route along the Silver coast from Bidart to Biarritz, an old port city that has preserved the amazing atmosphere of the Napoleonic era to the present day. Today, it one of the most prestigious resorts in France and its status is equivalent to the status of Saint-Tropez. The symbol of Biarritz and its peculiar calling card, is a giant Virgin Mary Statue, for which Eiffel himself designed the pedestal. The sculpture is set on a rocky cliff, from which there is an amazing view of the city and the Bay of Biscay. You can get to the observation deck using a pedestrian bridge, a walk along which can be a real test for people who have a fear of heights and open space.
