Potokaki beach
Potokaki is the largest beach on the island, with its eastern side bordering the airport. The coastline, stretched almost 4 km, includes both noisy, active zones, and quite secluded. Any of the visitors will find a lesson to their liking. Potokaki repeatedly took possession of the Blue Flag.

Beach description
Potokaki beach starts from Pitagorio, passed by Potokaki and finishes at Ireon village. The sandy shore is smoothly sinking to depth, and on land, areas of pebbles of different calibers are interspersed with sand. Water is often calm, very comfortable for swimming. If there are windy days, it blows mainly towards the sea, so there are no big waves.
The eastern part of the shore in more inhabited, organized, some hotels approach the shore directly. There are showers, changing cabins, restrooms. The beach provides all the amenities for vacationers:
- free parking;
- sun loungers, umbrellas;
- sports equipment for water lessons;
- well-groomed volleyball court, a treadmill;
- catering facilities;
- provision of services for disabled people;
- public transport traffic is in place.
The western extremity has a more natural look, there are places where you can get away from the crowd, swim, sunbathe almost alone. The warm sea, absence of dangerous depth and waves makes the beach convenient for visiting with kids.
Lovers of active vacation take part in volleyball competitions, go water skiing, "bananas", and then visit cozy bars and taverns, walk along olive trees, explore ancient ruins.
When is the best time to go?
Greece - a country with a long length from north to south, so the recommendations will vary depending on the place where you are going. The holiday season begins in May and reaches a peak in July-August: there are too many tourists, and the temperature on the southern islands reaches 40 degrees, which may still not play a role on the beach, but certainly not suitable for sightseeing. So the best time to relax in Greece is the end of spring-beginning of summer or September-October.

Infrastructure
Guests of Potokaki beach are accommodated mainly in guest houses, small hotels, which are so green near the beach that there is the sound of waves at night. The proximity of the village and the port gives the opportunity for interesting walks. Supermarkets, taverns are a 5-minute walk, no matter which path you choose.
You can ride a bike or rent a scooter for shopping, but walking through the picturesque streets is much nicer. A shuttle bus runs between the center and the beach.

The hotel has a wonderful fruit garden, balconies overlook the sea, and on its own beach there are sun loungers and umbrellas. Travelers have no difficulties with food. The hotel has a kitchenette where you can cook on your own if you wish. There is a large selection of cafes and restaurants on the beach, other places. Fish taverns serving traditional dishes are very popular. Locals themselves like spending an evening in the company of friends, not in their own kitchen but in a restaurant that is familiar for years, where they cook homey, for frequenters.
Tea is not very popular. Coffee and juice are more respected here. It is worth tasting retsina or specific anise vodka, a grape brandy.
In addition to olive oil, ceramics, it’s worth taking home some of the different variations of cult objects. They can be ordinary images, carved faces or icons framed by an expensive metal frame with stones. Families will appreciate the quality of local coffee, sweets.

- From Samos airport to Potokaki there are regular buses and taxis. You can rent a car. Many hotels organize transfers for customers. With neighboring islands, there is communication by sea, by speedboat. Taxi are simply not "caught" on the streets; they are rented in special parking lots.
- Dry and hot monts are July, August, the most comfortable time is May and September. Winter is not very cold, it is wet, from December to January, there is a large amount of rain.
The places surrounding Potokaki are mostly resort areas, the industry is not developed here, cities and villages are busy servicing vacationers. Tourists are attracted by the preserved historical values:
- In ancient Pythagorio you can see Roman baths, the tunnel of Eupalinos, which once provided the city with water, the ancient amphitheater, what remains of the temple of Hera.
- The surroundings of the village of Karlovasi are famous for gorges and waterfalls, the very old church of the Transfiguration of the Lord, the remains of the Venetian fortress.
- The Church of St. Nicholas in Kokkari attracts with its rich external and internal decoration.
Going on a long walking route, it is desirable to have a supply of water, something to eat.
