Nestled in the western part of the island, this resort village shares its name with the stunning beach it harbors. Renowned as the finest seaside destination on Sifnos, Kamares is enveloped by breathtaking natural vistas. The beach is particularly favored by families with children and those seeking a tranquil retreat.
As a peaceful haven on the Aegean Sea, Kamares Beach is rarely overrun by tourists. Its expansive sandspit glimmers with soft, light yellow sand, imbued with captivating golden hues. The seascape is completed by the dark blue waters, where waves and wind are a seldom occurrence. The gentle, shallow water entry, characteristic of Sifnos's beaches, slopes gradually, making it ideal for waders of all ages.
The beach prides itself on impeccable cleanliness, a distinction recognized by the prestigious European Blue Flag award. This honor is bestowed only upon beaches that satisfy stringent criteria for water quality, recreational facilities, and safety standards. Additionally, Kamares is well-appointed with amenities, offering umbrellas and sun loungers for a comfortable day by the sea.
When is the best time to go?
The best time to visit Sifnos for a beach vacation is during the late spring to early fall, with the peak season being from June to September. Here's why:
- Late Spring (May to early June): This period is ideal for visitors seeking tranquility and mild weather. The island is less crowded, and the sea temperature begins to warm up, making it pleasant for swimming.
- Summer (late June to August): These are the warmest months, perfect for beachgoers who enjoy hot weather and vibrant nightlife. The sea is at its warmest, and all tourist facilities are fully operational.
- Early Fall (September to October): The weather remains warm, but the crowds start to thin out, offering a more relaxed atmosphere. The sea is still suitable for swimming, and the services are still available, though some may start to wind down towards the end of the period.
For the optimal balance of good weather, warm sea temperatures, and fewer crowds, late June to early July or September are particularly recommended. These times provide the best conditions for a serene and enjoyable beach vacation on the beautiful island of Sifnos.
