Finikas beach

Over the past few years, the small village of Finikas has become one of the best resorts on the island of Syros with a developed infrastructure, while maintaining the charm of a quiet and cozy town with a magnificent beach.

Beach description

Finikas Beach is situated in the resort town in the southwest beach of Siros island, 11 km away from Ermupolis. This location received its name in the honor of owners of the old pier, the Phoenicians. Today, the second largest port on Siros is located in this part of the beach. Planty of fishermans boats and yachts accost these very shore of Finikas because it is protected from northern summer winds especially frequent on Aegean Islands, and is a filling and mooring depot for tripper boats.

Finikas is a small bay that is surrounded with the most beautiful natural views. The magic golden sand beach is crowned with high pines, surrounded with rocks on the right, and bordering on a small town with neat snow white houses. clear and calm waters are shallow and safe. The water entry is sand and clear, in spite of closeness to the rocks. Finikas is especially popular among families with children because the beach is equipped with sports, basketball, and game sites. You can also rent sling chairs and umbrellas.

In order to get to the beach, you can take a scheduled bus going from Ermupolis. But it's much more comfortable to find dwelling in the settlement itself: it can offer an excellent choice of hotels and restaurants near the beach.

When is the best time to go?

Greece - a country with a long length from north to south, so the recommendations will vary depending on the place where you are going. The holiday season  begins in May and reaches a peak in July-August: there are too many tourists, and the temperature on the southern islands reaches 40 degrees, which may still not play a role on the beach, but certainly not suitable for sightseeing. So the best time to relax in Greece is the end of spring-beginning of summer or September-October. 

Infrastructure

Today, the developed resort of Finikas offers an excellent selection of modern hotels, rooms, bars, restaurants, etc. One of the most popular options are apartments Letta equipped with a kitchen, a beautiful shady garden and free Wi-Fi, the hotel is just 100 meters from the beach. All rooms at the hotel are equipped with air-conditioner and include a kitchenette with cooking hobs, fridge and dining area. The village center, where local taverns and various shops are located, is about 50 meters away.

Restaurants near the beach invite you to taste Greek and European cuisine and snacks. Seafood dishes are especially popular on the menu.

Also, a car rental service has been developed in the village, which tourists have often used recently. It is very convenient for traveling around the island, in addition, the beach is equipped with ample free parking.

Among other things, Phoenix is popular for fishing, snorkelling and windsurfing.

For those who love new experiences and are looking for adventure, interesting places for walking are located near Finikas:

  • The bay of Agios Stefanos is located northwest of the beach. The place can be reached by boat or on foot. This area is extremely rugged and rocky, so it is recommended to use special shoes. Agios Stefanos is interesting in that there is a cave in the bay with the chapel of the same name. This attraction of Syros was built by a fisherman after St. Stephen saved him from a giant octopus. Since then, annually in Finikas on July 27, the day of St. Pantaleon, a festival is held;
  • Kokkino Beach is a quite place, about a kilometer from Finikas. You can reach this beach by a dirt road. Translated from Greek, "kokkino" means "red". And this is true, the rocks and sand on this beach are red. Despite the fact that the landscapes of Kokkino are fascinating, its beach is deserted.
