Torre dell'Orso beach
Torre dell'Orso – one of the most beautiful beaches of Puglia, located in the city of Melendugno in the province of Lecce. He has received several environmental awards, including the Blue Flag. Every year, tourists from all over the world storm it, mainly young people and couples.

Beach description
The 900-meter-long Torre dell'Orso coastline is gracefully curved with a crescent moon, covered in fine silver sand and framed by dunes and cliffs. Behind the beach area begins a pine grove. The sea in this area is clear and crystal clear due to the proximity of the Otranto Strait. Shoal near the coast favors a safe holiday with children.
The beach is divided into a municipal area (here you can set up camping) and a private one with several resorts. Vacationers are served by several bars where you can buy drinks, use the toilet and shower, rent umbrellas, sun loungers and life preservers. In the farthest right corner is the family section. The main water attraction is kayaking.
The architectural dominant of the beach is the dilapidated Bear Tower (Torre dell'Orso) of the 16th century. The man-made monument is opposed by the creation of nature on the right side of the bay – a pair of cliffs Le Due Sorelle (Two Sisters), towering above the water. They stand close to each other at a short distance from the coast. According to legend, the gods turned into these statues two inseparable sisters who died in the depths of the sea.
The coastal cliffs are rich in caves. The most famous of them – San Cristoforo – is located in the southeastern part of the bay. Created by ancient people in the IV-II centuries BC, it contains traces of graffiti and inscriptions in Greek and Latin.
When is it better to go
In terms of climate, the period from May to October is the most favorable for visiting Italy. The air and water temperature becomes ideal for a classic beach holiday, followed by a trip to the coast of Italy. However, it is necessary to remember that a long summer with the scorching sun, warm sea and pleasant sea breeze attracts crowds of tourists.
