Sjøsanden beach
Sjøsanden is one of the most well-known beaches of South Norway. It's secret is the reliable protection from the bad weather. No matter what is the wind direction, it's always calm on the beach. It stretches for 800 meters near the center of Mandal.

Beach description
Sandy beach is surrounded by dense coniferous forest. Since the beach is located at the mouth of the Mandal river, the water has a low salt concentration. Smooth and shallow entry into the sea allows guests to relax here with young children. For them a small slide was made on the beach. Adults enjoy volleyball playing, kayaking, canoeing.
Sjøsanden is a part of Furulunden Natural Park, which include several magnificent beaches and rocky headland. Furulunden has an extensive network of footpaths and is equipped with public toilets. Risøbank cottage has a summer cafe and art exhibitions on Lordens beach. Can not fail to please the guests the availability of Kristiansand ferry.
Tourists can stay in a certified family campsite. Among the facilities:
- clean bathrooms and showers,
- electrified kitchen,
- two pools (one is for the children),
- terrace with sunbeds for sunbathing,
- a washing machine and a dryer are available for rent.
In walking distance there are playground for children, open restaurant, stall selling necessities, two supermarkets. It will take 10 min to get to Mandal on foot.
When is it better to go
The most suitable time for a beach recreation in Norway is the beginning of summer. In the country of fjords from June to July the sun shines almost around the clock. In the southern resorts, the air temperature warms up to + 17-23 °C. May and September will be a great alternative to the summer months, when the weather is still warm, but there are fewer tourists. Arriving in Norway in the winter, you can significantly save on tickets and hotel accommodation, and at the same time see the northern lights.
