Tamariz beach
Tamariz is one of the best urban beaches of the Lisbon Riviera, which is located 15 km from capital, in the Estoril sea resort area. It was the first beach in Portugal, which received the Blue flag because of ideal conditions for vacationers and the high level of ecology, which Tamariz still holding for many years. You can get easily to Tamariz by the Lisbon-Cascais train, bus or rental car. There is the railway station, bus stop and small paid parking nearby. The underground passage leads to the promenade, where you can go down to the beach by stairs.

Beach description
The shore is 300 metres long, covered with clean light fine sand. Coastal cliffs divide the beach line into wide and narrow areas. To the east, Tamariz is bounded by a long pier that separates it from San Pedro beach. Water entry is flat, bottom is sandy, water is clean and transparent, relatively calm because of pier. Rocks close the beach from the winds. Tamariz is characterized by pronounced tides.
There is a rental of sun loungers, umbrellas, equipment for water entertainment, showers, changing rooms on Tamariz. There is a medical center, rescue services, bar, restaurant. Wheelchair ramps is available. In the western part of the beach there is a small natural ocean pool with warm water. There are two paid swimming pools in front of the church .
Tamariz is one of the most popular and crowded public beaches in the region. Usually there are many guests of Estoril hotel and locals, mainly young people. There are tourists from Lisbon often, and on weekends come capital residents with children. The beach is guarded, there is video surveillance and free Wi-Fi.
When is it better to go
The beach season in Portugal lasts from the beginning of June until September, when the air temperature reaches +30°C and the water temperature - +19°C. It should be remembered that the Atlantic Ocean does not warm up well and cools quickly, lovers of a more comfortable temperature can swim in natural stone pools, which are quite numerous on the coast.

Estoril Resort offers many accommodation options. Excellent living conditions and impeccable service are provided by local hotels, where guests can enjoy swimming pools, restaurants, health and fitness centers, beauty salons. Also it is possible to settle in apartments, guesthouses and hotels with comfort 2-3.
Where to eat
Estoril abounds in restaurants, cafes, eateries and bars. There are expensive restaurants working on a scheduled basis, with appropriate etiquette and strict dress code. You can have a snack in the 24-hour cafes and bars on the promenade near the beach. There are fast food establishments with relatively low prices and relevant food quality.
Regional dishes prevail on the resort. It is worth to order traditional Portuguese seafood dishes:
- Tamboril (a dish of angler),
- soup-puree of caldeirada fish
- , baked chicken,
- black feijoada beans baked with sausages, dried meat, giblets and spices.
Portugal is also notorious for winemaking. The legendary port wine, madera, young white wines deserve special mention.
What to do
Tamariz Beach is suitable for snorkelling, diving, windsurfing, standup paddleboarding classes. Carnivals, festivals, dance shows and parties are often held here. Animators work during the day. On certain days, there are group surfing and diving classes for people with disabilities.
Not far from Tamariz there is the largest casino in Europe, which appeared in one of the famous "bond" series in late 60s. There are rumors that here Jan Fleming, an officer of the Great Britain secret services, originated the image of James Bond, an unsurpassed spy. Near the gambling house there is a park and equipped paid parking with very expensive places.
Estoril has excellent golf courses, sports fields, gyms and a riding club. There are children playgrounds, bike paths, exercise equipment on the waterfront, stretching all the way to Cascais. In the vicinity of Estoril there is a circuit and 8 water parks.
