Whale Bay beach
In the forests of Whale Bay is hidden one of the most beautiful beach in New Zealand. Smooth sandy shore, lush tropical vegetation and rich blue waters fall in love at first sight. From the beach offers fabulous views of the mountain hills and cliffs rising in the middle of the ocean.

Beach description
Infrastructure of the beach is limited to the toilet and trodden trails. Other creature comforts can be found in the village of Matapouri, located 1.2 km South-East of Whale Bay. There is a grocery store, restaurant, hotel and a gym. There is a large parking lot next to it.
Whale Bay is characterized by a smooth set of depths, small waves (compared to other New Zealand beaches) and a refreshing breeze. Surface and the bottom of the ocean are covered with golden sand, pleasant to the touch. Ideal conditions for the following activities:
- snorkeling;
- diving;
- surfing;
- picnics;
- swimming;
- taking sunbathes.
A separate advantage of Whale Bay is sparsely populated. On weekdays, more than 2-3 dozen people rarely gather here. This place can be reached on foot. Here the trail leads from the village of Matapouri.
When is the best time to go?
The best time to travel to New Zealand is December-January, the local summer. Despite the warming, the temperature rarely exceeds 30 degrees, so relaxing on the beach here is very comfortable.
