Wharariki beach
Wharariki is a wide beach surrounded by mountain peaks, sand dunes and dense forest. Beach consists of 2 parts separated by a rock. There is a small hotel, playground, cozy cafe in 500 meters from beach. The nearest large town is 29 km south of the beach.

Wharariki has the following features:
- large area - length exceeds 2 km and width reaches 150 m;
- immaculateness along the entire beach line;
- sparsely populated - people come here to escape from civilization, enjoy the wildlife;
- interesting relief - gentle mountains that you can climb without any equipment;
- equipped parking lot 500 meters from the beach;
- beautiful view of the rocks, islands and water surface from the beach.
Wharariki is characterized by large waves, refreshing wind, smooth set of depth. There are several trails for walking, passing through the mountains, forests and sand dunes on the beach. Surfers and fans of extreme sports also relax on the beach. There are few swimmers here - they are greatly hampered by large waves.
Wharariki is recommended to visit during low tide. These days beach is gaining maximum width and travelers have opportunity to visit the local caves and islands. This place can be reached by private car (on the road SH60 from Takaka village) or by taxi.
When is the best time to go?
The best time to travel to New Zealand is December-January, the local summer. Despite the warming, the temperature rarely exceeds 30 degrees, so relaxing on the beach here is very comfortable.
