Blanca beach

In the translation "Playa Blanca" means "white beach", and it is worth noting the name is fully true! And if initially it was given for the snow-white bays of this resort, today the “snow-white status” is also supported by luxurious yachts moored off the coast of Playa Blanca. This is a place with amazingly beautiful views. It is ideal for a vacation with the whole family.

Beach description

The beach is located in the southwest of the historic city of Cartagena on the Isla Barú peninsula, which can only be reached by boat. It is part of Utria National Natural Park. From July to October, humpback whales can be seen from its coast, whose migration route passes through this section of the Pacific Ocean.

The cost of the boat round trip is 3 dollars. The beach is perfect for families with children and romantic walks. However, since it is very popular, it is better to choose a weekday so that there are fewer people around.

This is a sandy white beach with beautiful turquoise water. There is no greenery on the shore - only sand and rocks. Keep this in mind when you pack your bag on the beach. Do not forget hats and suncream. You can walk around the beach without shoes. In the water, too, because the bottom without unpleasant surprises is flat and gentle.

Winds and waves are small. Rocks protect the site from drafts. This is a huge advantage for vacationers with young children and those who swim not well. The absence of waves and currents near the shore makes swimming safe.

When is it better to go?

The best time to visit Colombia is from December to April, when the weather is relatively warm and the rains are replaced by the dry season.  It should be borne in mind that the coast is always hotter than in the highlands, for example, in the capital Bogota.

Infrastructure

Due to the fact that there is no natural shade on the beach, we recommend you to rent a tent. Many people come here just for a day, but those who want to stay, local hotels and pensions will always be happy. In the nearby area there is a 5-star hotel Royal Decameron Baru. It offers its guests 4 restaurants, 5 bars, 3 pools, a business center, a fitness center, SPA services.

There are cafes, restaurants, shops, and also enterprising traders who intrusively offer vacationers absolutely everything: from typical Caribbean food to sunglasses, coconut tanning oil, cold beer and seashell jewelry. It’s better not to buy anything from them, and, if possible, not to talk at all. It is better to have a snack in specialized places than buy food of dubious origin.

Local cafes rent trestle beds, umbrellas and tables. The thing of this resort is the Coco Loco soft drink, that is Crazy Coconut. The cost of beach amenities is $5-10. The choice of entertainment here is also huge - banana boats, jet skis, kayaks, canoes, diving. You can go snorkeling. Renting a mask will cost about $2, so it’s better to take yours.
