Bocagrande beach
The most famous Bocagrande beach in Cartagena, one of Colombia’s 5 major cities, became famous back in the 1950s when American oil barons and their families used this beach as their own. Currently, this is a public beach on the Caribbean with a large number of vacationers. Bocagrande beach is located on a peninsula south of the Old Town.

Beach description
The beach is covered with beige soft sand of volcanic origin. The entry to the water is gentle enough; the bottom is clean; stones and algae are not found. The water against the background of black sand looks cloudy, but in fact it is clean and transparent. A significant disadvantage of the beach was the local importunate sellers who sell food, souvenirs, jewelry, hammocks, boats etc.
Bocagrande beach is a good beach, but it is impossible to be alone on it. It will be difficult to listen to the waves and the wind not only because of the noisy sellers, but also because of the music that became part of the beach on the weekend. Many vacationers come to this beach for surfing from December to February. During this period, water rises and creates excellent conditions for this sport. For families with young children, it is recommended to visit Bocagrande beach from March to November.
When is it better to go?
The best time to visit Colombia is from December to April, when the weather is relatively warm and the rains are replaced by the dry season. It should be borne in mind that the coast is always hotter than in the highlands, for example, in the capital Bogota.
