Taganga beach

The former fishing village, which has now become a full-fledged tourist center with the necessary infrastructure, attracts vacationers with ideal conditions for scuba diving, relaxing swimming in the waters of the bay and picturesque nature. The majestic hills protecting the settlement from through winds seem to make it proud and impregnable.

Beach description

The beach is located far from Santa Marta, however, vacationers have no problems how and where to get here. Transport connection is well established. You can get to Taganga beach for 0.5 USD by bus from the center of Santa Marta or by taxi for 3 USD (20 minutes).

This is a small area beach with warm white sand. It can be crowded during the season, but vacationers still manage to play beach volleyball even in such cramped conditions. To take a good place, it is better to arrive early. On weekends, locals come here for holidays, and there are even more people. Nevertheless, this is a good place for a relaxing swim and exploring the underwater world. The seabed hides the beauty of millions of exotic Caribbean fish and corals. Adventurous people even dream of finding sunken chests of gold as greetings from a distant era of Spanish expansion.

The bottom of the beach is flat, with soft sand and no stones. The lack of winds makes this area absolutely safe for swimming with children. Young people come here to visit the fun parties which last until the morning right on the shore near the water.

When is it better to go?

The best time to visit Colombia is from December to April, when the weather is relatively warm and the rains are replaced by the dry season.  It should be borne in mind that the coast is always hotter than in the highlands, for example, in the capital Bogota.

Infrastructure

Presented at a minimum. Yes, there is always a free hotel room and a table in a local cafe, but there are not so many places of entertainment as, for example, in Santa Marta, 5 km away. The most popular hotel rooms among tourists are in Taganga Beach. You don’t have to go far to eat: canopied seasonal cafes are located right on the beach. There are also restaurants of a higher level. Most of them work until 23:00.

You can rent masks for swimming on the beach. There are also several diving centers on the shore. If you want to take a boat trip, you can rent a kayak, boat or a small yacht. As for the sun loungers and umbrellas, they are not needed here. Big-leafed trees right near the water create a natural shadow that is enough for everyone. And soft sand allows you to take sun baths lying on a towel comfortably. Many vacationers pitch tents here.

In Taganga there is sometimes water shortage in hotels and shops. Be prepared for this. Unprepared tourists also suffer from the fact that there is only one ATM in the village, which also often ends with money. Therefore, it is better to go here with cash.
