Payyambalam beach

Payyambalam – a beach with a length of about 4 km in the eponymous resort village on the northern coast of Kerala. You can get to Payyambalam by bus, rickshaw or rented car from Kannur.

Beach description

The long coastline with sections of rock formations is covered with fine light sand. The descent into the water is long and gentle, the bottom is sandy. The sea is quite calm. It is comfortable to rest with children. During a certain season, high waves suitable for surfing rise in the Payyambalam area.

Near the beach there is a large landscape park with many decorative elements, where locals and guests of Kannur like to relax. The park area on the beach is crowded and dirty, especially at weekends. Among the tourists there are many Indians from different states of India and tourists from Europe. In other areas of Payyambalam, it is not crowded and calm. There are completely deserted places where you can indulge in meditation or do yoga. On the beach there are rental points for boats, masks and snorkelling tubes, surfboards, wetsuits.

In Payyambalam, it is worth visiting the sculpture Mother and Child, designed by the outstanding Indian sculptor Kanai Kunhiramana, a Portuguese port of the early 16th century and a memorial complex to famous political figures of India.

When is it better to go

The best time to spend holidays on the beaches of India – is from November to March.
