Anse Couleuvre beach

Anse Couleuvre is a beach at the foot of the steep cliffs in the north of Martinique Island. The hiking path links him to the village of Grand Riviere. At the top of the surrounding rocks there is an incredible view of Snowy Bay.

Beach description

This wild place can only be reached on foot from the stage of the road, where it is customary to leave cars. And the way to it is quite difficult, with bumps, sharp turns and squishy places. The humidity in this part of the tropics is almost 100%. A car with a low landing isn't gonna make it through here for sure. The roads are not even known to the navigator, you need to navigate on the map by setting a safe speed mode, signaling on corners and slowing down at numerous drains.

On the way you can see the primeval jungle and enjoy the solitude and absence of any signs of civilizations.

The hard way to the beach is rewarded with a stunning view from the path:

  • The coast is grey, it is covered in volcanic sand. In some places, there are boulders piling up. The water is overflowing with emeralds.
  • Almost to the water itself come palm trees and other lush vegetation.
  • The bay is cozy, covered with rocks on all sides.
  • A few hundred meters from the shore, you can see the island of La Perle, around which sea snakes and tropical fish romps in the clearest water. This is a pilgrimage place for divers and snorkelers.
  • On weekends and in season, despite the difficult approaches, there are many tourists, visitors and locals on the shore. Tents are set up, barbecue, sea bottom, and land in the rear of the beach, where there are also many interesting plants and animals.

You have to take care of your own meal, food is not delivered here. There are no beach amenities, toilets or other paraphernalia. Everything is created exclusively by nature and only for those who strive for authenticity, are not afraid of physical trials, love the wild nature.

When is the best time to go?

It is best to go to Martinique in the dry season from December to May, when  the rains do not bother you, and the thermometer does not drop below 22 degrees. However, it should be remembered that in late December - early January, many tourists arrive on the island, which  affects prices.
