Anse Dufour beach

Anse Dufour - a visit to this place will take you back forty years. Authentic beach in the southwest of the island in the small bay with white, sometimes golden sand. The bottom of the bay is rocky on both sides. This area attracts many researchers of sea bottom. There are a lot of fishing boats and pelicans, shamelessly snatching the catch of the sea workers.

Beach description

To get to it, you have to overcome a rather specific path, the end of which may not seem easy for everyone. Especially on weekends, each driver needs to be as skillful as possible to park on rocky terrain. It is better to get here early in the morning when there are still parking spaces.

The beach are overcrowded due to excellent conditions: there is soft white sand, gentle bottom, and just off the beach, there are many rock formations, coral reefs, where many sea creatures inhabit, which diving enthusiasts come to watch. Turtles not only allow photoshoots with them but also use the shore of a nearby bay for laying eggs. Fishers of a nearby village touch land on their boats and allow male tourists to participate in freeing nets from the catch.

Anse Noir is a five-minute walk from Anse Dufour and there is more wildlife here. Tropical fish, sea snakes, and young green turtles scurry in crystal water. On the shore there is a small hut where you can take equipment for snorkeling and diving. Athletes in good physical shape like to swim off this coast.

What attracts tourists Anse Dufour:

  • Cozy beach with a comfortable entrance to the water, calm sea. Those who want to get acquainted with marine life will fond it here in full.
  • Opportunity to participate in or watch traditional fishing.
  • There are many restaurants and snack bars along the beach and on the road leading to it.
  • The descent to the beach is equipped with steps and a ramp, so for a person with any physical abilities, rest here is available.

When is the best time to go?

It is best to go to Martinique in the dry season from December to May, when  the rains do not bother you, and the thermometer does not drop below 22 degrees. However, it should be remembered that in late December - early January, many tourists arrive on the island, which  affects prices.

Infrastructure

To be near the beach, you can stay in a nice place Domaine de l'Anse Ramier, 3*. The terraces on the hillside of the hotel provide a clear view of the sea and the countryside around it. To explore the sights around, you will definitely need a car. It takes 15 minutes to get to the nearest town, but you have to go back up the mountain. The hotel grounds are well maintained, someone makes a barbecue every evening. Breakfast can be cooked in the kitchenette, and breakfast on the balcony.

There are restaurants for any tastes not so far from the hotel. The beaches ones serve delicious mussels and frits, and wonderful fried chicken. Visitors drink cold drinks while their feet are lowered into the warm sand. In beach establishments, the food quality is not inferior to that which is treated in the proximity to the city, but the prices here are much lower.

The order of the stores may seem strange, most of them are closed in the afternoon. Tourists who live in a house with a kitchen are comfortable to hide in Cafetours, shops selling French products. Meat, cheese, dairy products, wine, vegetables have more attractive prices. On one of the evenings, a trip to the restaurant can be replaced by a beachside dinner and a snack brought with cheese and grilled chicken.
