Beach description
Welcome to the serene Gonio Beach in Georgia - an idyllic destination for those seeking a tranquil beach vacation. The expansive shores of Gonio Beach offer ample space, ensuring it never feels overcrowded, even during the peak season. This makes it an ideal spot for visitors who yearn for a peaceful and secluded retreat. The beach and its surrounding areas are covered with shingle of a considerable size, which may be uncomfortable to tread on barefoot. We recommend wearing special shoes for comfort, which you can bring along or purchase in the nearby village.
The sea's entry at Gonio Beach is steep, and the shallow water zone is minimal, quickly giving way to deeper waters just a few meters from the shore. The seabed is rocky, but the water remains pure and crystal clear. Due to the lack of natural shade along the coastline, beachgoers should consider bringing or renting a beach umbrella to seek refuge from the sun's rays.
Gonio Beach is comprised of three distinct areas:
- The Central Part: A well-maintained section where visitors can rent beach equipment for their convenience.
- The Southern Part: Adjacent to Kvariati Beach, this area is favored by married couples with children, thanks to its broader shallow waters and a gentle, sloping entry that gradually deepens - perfect for young swimmers.
- The Northern Part: A more untouched and natural area, bordering the outstation, for those who prefer a wilder beach experience.
The beach's prime location and excellent transportation links are among its many benefits. Gonio Beach is easily accessible from Batumi, with a short 15-20 minute journey by taxi, bus, or minibus.
Best Time to Visit Gonio Beach
The best time to visit Georgia for a beach vacation is typically during the late spring to early fall months, when the weather is warm and conducive to spending time on the coast. Here's a breakdown of the optimal periods:
- Late Spring (May to June): This is a great time to enjoy the beaches of Georgia as the temperatures are comfortable, and the summer crowds have not yet arrived. The water may still be a bit cool in May, but by June it warms up nicely.
- Summer (July to August): Summer is the peak season for beachgoers. The weather is hot and sunny, perfect for swimming and sunbathing. However, be prepared for larger crowds and higher accommodation prices.
- Early Fall (September to October): This is an ideal time for those looking to avoid the crowds but still enjoy warm weather. The ocean remains warm enough for swimming, especially in early September, and the humidity begins to drop off.
Regardless of the time you choose, Georgia's beaches offer a delightful escape with their charming coastal towns, delicious seafood, and beautiful natural scenery. Just remember to check the local weather and water conditions before planning your trip.

- Outlets for beach essentials: Here you can purchase souvenirs, air mattresses, children's swimming rings, and special beach shoes.
Vendors offering water, coffee, local sweets, and fruits regularly stroll along the beach. A waterfront promenade, reminiscent of the Batumi Seaside Boulevard, stretches along the entire beach. It is ideal for bicycle rides, gyro scooter jaunts, gyroboard adventures, or leisurely evening walks.
Gonio boasts over 50 hotels and guest houses, with some situated on the front line. For example, Gold Hotel offers cozy family rooms, complete with a swimming pool and parking lot on the premises.

The disadvantage of the beach in Gonio, like all pebble beaches, is the formation in weather of large stone deposits in the surf, which creates certain difficulties when leaving the water. But Gonio can be a convenient starting point for exploring local and nearby attractions.
On the territory of the village, a little away from the beach area there is a museum reserve dating back to the ancient period - the ancient Roman fortress of Gonio(Apsare). Observing it, you will learn more about the history of this region. An interesting pastime promises a trip to Batumi. There is a botanical garden, a dolphinarium, a contact zoo, Miracle Park and the observation deck Alphabetic Tower, 6 May Park.
